- Electron Beam dynamics: tracking code simulation, linac design, non linear and collective effects (microbunching instabilities, longitudinal and transverse wakefields, space charge, etc...)
- Experimental characterisation and manipulation of the electron beam: measurements of the projected and slice emittance, temporal profile, time jitter, and longitudinal phase space, studies of the CSR-induced microbunching instabilities, longitudinal phase space linearisation, and manipulation by means of the laser heater.
- Physics and application of Free Electron Laser: commissioning and optimisation of FEL operating in High Gain Harmonic Generation, Optical Klystron enhanced Self Amplified Spontaneous Emission, Echo Enabled Harmonic Generation, Superradiance regime; advanced FEL scheme investigation as multi-pulse multi-color generation, attosecond pulse train, coeherent control, femtosecond polarisation shaping.
