I work as head of the Optics Activity @ Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, overseeing the activity of group of people and laboratories.
The activity revolves around:
1) Design and Simulations
2) Metrology
1) We use a number of simulations tools that allow us to design and predict the optical behaviour of beamlines, in terms of ray tracing as well as physical optics.
We also carry out simulations on thermal loads in collaboration with the Mechanical Design Activity, in order to specify cooling systems for the beamlines' optical elements.
2) We measure the surface profile and slope error of such optical elements using a number of specialized tools.
