ActivityEP is Senior Scientist and beamline coordinator of the FERMI Free Electron Laser EP has designed the TIMEX beamline. He is currently responsible for the operation and development of TIMEX. Typical experimental schemes of TIMEX include pump-probe experiments (synchronizing FEL and fs-laser pulses), ultrafast optical and EUV spectroscopies, in particular sub-picosecond time resolved x-ray absorption spectroscopy (tr-XAS). More recently, further disruptive techninques have been implemented at TIMEX such as i) ASE spectroscopy from high pressure gases exposed to EUV light, ii) EUV second harmonic generation, iii) impulsive stimulate Raman scattering combined with tr-XAS, iv) superradiant Thomson scattering. Main research interests include:
EP collaborates with the FERMI team for the commissioning and developing activities of FERMI. Moreover, he contributes to the Elettra 2.0 upgrade, working on the definition of possible impact experiments based on 1 picosecond MHz pulse emission from the upgraded Elettra synchrotron. EP has guest edited the Structural Dynamics Special Topic entitled "The Advent of Ultrafast X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy" and the Applied Science special issue entitled "Latest Trends in Free Electron Lasers". He is member of the steering committee and workpackage leader (WP6) of the European Project EuPRAXIA (Early Implementation Phase) aimed at designing and operating user facilities based on plasma acceleration technology. EP has recently published a perspective article entitled "A roadmap for strategic pilot experiments at the first plasma-driven x-ray FEL". He is member of the EuPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB Scientific Advisory Board He is coauthor of the Technical Design Report of the plasma-driven soft x-ray FEL EuPRAXIA@SPARC_LAB. |
