On 24 June, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste welcomed Caterina de Gavardo, Councillor for Urban Security of the Municipality of Trieste, Maurizio De Blasio, Councillor for Education and Family Policies, Walter Milocchi, Commander of the Trieste Local Police, and a delegation of guests for a visit focused on the centre's activities and its ongoing development projects.
The visit opened with an institutional meeting with Giovanni Comelli, President of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, who outlined the role of the facility as an internationally recognised research infrastructure, highlighting its future development plans and the opportunities for collaboration with local stakeholders, public institutions and the education sector. The programme continued with a presentation by Marco Lonza on the Green Energy project. Using maps and 3D models, he guided the delegation through the transformation of the Pietra Scoria quarry, illustrating how the rehabilitation of the former quarry and the construction of a future photovoltaic park represent a strategic investment in the sustainability of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste. The project will strengthen the long-term competitiveness and operational capacity of the research infrastructure while supporting its future growth. |

The visit was characterised by an open and engaging exchange. Councillors de Gavardo and De Blasio, together with Commander Milocchi, showed a strong interest in the research carried out at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, asking numerous questions about the applications of synchrotron light and the FERMI free-electron laser, the opportunities offered by Elettra 2.0, and the centre's ongoing development strategy. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for dialogue between Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and the Municipality of Trieste, reaffirming the importance of close cooperation between research institutions and local authorities in fostering scientific excellence, technological innovation and sustainable development. |
