LEAPS, the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources, has been launched in Brussels on November 13th, 2017, in the presence of Robert-Jan Smits, Director General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission, and Giorgio Rossi, Chair of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures.

The representatives of 19 institutions across Europe signed the LEAPS Consortium Declaration and the corresponding facilities became full member of the LEAPS initiative. For Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste the Consortium Declaration was signed by the President and CEO, prof. Alfonso Franciosi.

The LEAPS collaboration aims at strengthening Europe’s leading position in Photon Science, Technology and Education. Both the Elettra synchrotron source and the FERMI free-electron laser (FEL) source are involved. Michele Svandrlik, Director of the FERMI Project, was invited at the launch event as the current chair of the FELs of Europe Association. Martina Dell’Angela was selected by the organizers of the event as a distinguished young scientist to present her forefront research on organic thin-film chemistry conducted at IOM-CNR and Elettra.

More information can be found at Lightsources.org news, or downloading the LEAPS brochure.
