A Collaboration Agreement between Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste, the international research center located within the AREA Science Park in Trieste, Italy, and SESAME (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Application in the Middle East), located in Allan, Jordan has been signed on December 1, 2021 on the occasion of the 39th SESAME Council held on the Dead Sea.

This agreement, signed by the Director of SESAME, Khaled Toukan and the Chief Scientific Officer Giorgio Paolucci on behalf of Elettra, follows the expired Technical-Scientific Collaboration Agreement of 2018 started in order to establish an interim framework between the centers, to facilitate a cooperative exchange of technical requirements, scientific and technological information, and promote the development of a leveraged program.

The purpose of the newly signed MoU is to further strengthen the collaboration in the development of synchrotron radiation based basic and applied research, to extend it to encompass greater access to the experience and knowledge gained by each facility, to find, develop and promote areas for joint research, enhance the use of synchrotron technology, exchange data and expertise, train and exchange scientific and technical personnel.
