Trieste will be the European Big Science Business Forum destination city in 2024

In 2024, Trieste will be the city of BSBF, Big Science Business Forum, an international congress focused on technological innovation, a meeting point between research and industry that links Europe's leading research infrastructures. The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 2022 edition in Granada, which saw more than 1100 participants and 190 exhibitors.
Commissioned by the Regione Autonoma of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the winning project, chosen among proposals from various European nations, is the outcome of shared work with the national research organisation Area Science Park, the ILO Network Italia, the National Coordination of Industrial Liaison Officers at the major international Big Science organisations (CNR, ENEA, INAF, INFN) and PromoTurismoFVG. The forum, which will take place at the conference centre of Porto Vecchio in Trieste, will be an opportunity to meet and discuss the issues and needs in cutting-edge technologies related to Big Science, also in the light of the major investment in research infrastructures activated within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The Councillor for Employment, Training, Education, Research, University and Family of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Alessia Rosolen commented: "A success for Friuli Venezia Giulia, and for the city of Trieste in particular." AREA SP President Caterina Petrillo added: "The success of this candidacy is the success of the Trieste-city-of-science system with its interconnected network of scientific institutions, universities, bodies and research infrastructures of international level. The real accelerating force of research and innovation in a pivotal region of Central and Eastern Europe, such as Friuli Venezia Giulia, lies precisely in the network of collaborations between these institutions," recalling the city's scientific realities, first and foremost Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, which hosts the international headquarters of the CERIC-ERIC European infrastructure, and the Free Electron Laser FERMI, cutting-edge research centres at the European level.
