On 3 April 2023, Elettra welcomed the visit of the students from the Liceo Scientifico Scienze Applicate 'Alle Stimate' high school, winners of the National Award on Digital Innovation.

The 'National Award on Digital Innovation' is an initiative promoted by Anitec-Assinform in collaboration with the Ministero dell’Istruzione e del Merito – Direzione Generale per gli Ordinamento Scolastici for the evaluation and internationalization of the national education system, addressed to the secondary school institutions. The initiative aims to involve students and teachers in a proactive awareness-raising and orientation action to encourage the transition to digital technology in the schools, families and society environment as a whole, enhancing the role and contribution of digital technologies.

A visit to the Area Science Park campus was organised for the winning students. After the greetings of Anna Sirica, Director General of Area Science Park, an overview of Area SP's research, innovation and enterprise ecosystem, a focus on the Friuli Venezia Giulia's Digital Innovation Hub, and a visit to the DOS (Data Optimisation and Simulation) Technology Demonstrator, the group headed from Padriciano to Basovizza to continue the visit to the synchrotron light source Elettra, where they were welcomed by the head of the Industrial Liaison office, Marco Peloi, who illustrated the activities that Elettra, in collaboration with companies, carries out in the field of innovation and technology transfer. The visit ended with Marco Zangrando, a researcher working at the FERMI Free Electron Laser, who explained the visiting students how research activities are carried out at the centre's two facilities.
