The 14th edition of the International Particle Accelerator Conference IPAC'23 has opened on Sunday, May 7, at the Palazzo dei Congressi in the Venice Lido.
Ralph Assmann, Chair of the Organising Committee, and Peter McIntosh, Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee, welcomed the 1600 participants in presence at the Sala Darsena of the Palazzo del Cinema, followed by Antonio Zoccoli, President of INFN and Alfonso Franciosi, President and CEO of Elettra, and the two Co-Chairs of the Local Organising Committee, Giovanni Bisoffi and Alessandro Fabris.
IPAC is the world's leading international event in the field of particle accelerators. IPAC'23, jointly organised by the accelerator communities in Europe, America and Asia, is hosted by the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare and Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste. During the five days of work, divided into plenary and parallel sessions, participants have the opportunity to learn about the highlights of world-leading accelerator research and development, get up-to-date on new projects as well as the latest information on accelerator facilities worldwide, meet their colleagues and establish new business contacts.

More than 2,000 submissions were received in addition to the 100 industry exhibitors, large and small-medium enterprises working in synergy with the research world, to which a special session is dedicated. Much space is also given to young researchers as speakers and in the daily scientific poster sessions. There is also a session devoted to the Equal Opportunities and a special ceremony for the awards of the most distinguished European Accelerator Group of the European Physical Society EPS-AG awards.
The conference ends on Friday 12 May with a technical tour of the INFN-NL and Elettra laboratories.
