From May 15th until May 19th 2023, 15 students selected within the DESTINY European Doctorate Programme exploited the Elettra beamlines’ capabilities in a theroretical and hands-on training school entitled «Operando studies using synchrotron radiation».
This training school took place at the premises of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste with lectures on different techniques employing synchrotron radiation relevant for the topics of the DESTINY program. The students had the possibility to experience the life of a synchrotron user, as the emphasis was on a hands-on approach providing training courses on two different beamlines XAFS and MCX, and the Tomolab laboratory. Interactive sessions were organized to prepare students to deal with basic data analysis as well as to write their own proposals.

The final aim of this school was to increase the awareness of the potential of synchrotron radiation for the DESTINY students, and to provide them the basis for the possible integration of such techniques in their PhD projects.

DESTINY is a European Doctorate Programme that aims to create a paradigm change in Battery Research, in line with the new European context around Energy Storage, especially Battery 2030+ . This 5-years project will train 50 PhD students within a Consortium of 20 Universities, 6 Research Centers, 2 Research Networs, 2 Regions, 3 Large Scale Facilities (including Elettra) and 7 Companies (including Renault and BASF) from 11 EU countries.
DESTINY is co-financed by the European Union under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action COFUND (GA n. 945357).
