Guido Barbiellini Amidei receives the silver seal from the Province of Trieste

On Monday September 28 2015 the Province of Trieste’s silver seal was conferred upon Prof. Guido Barbiellini Amidei.

Prof. Barbiellini Amidei, a now retired full professor of Physics at the Physics Department of the University of Trieste, has accrued considerable experience in the field of Elementary Particle Physics and High Energy Cosmic Rays Astrophysics. He has worked for a great many years at the laboratories of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare di Frascati, where he conceived and developed the DAPHNE accelerator which is still operating today.
He then moved to CERN in Geneva where he was among the scientists in charge of the DELPHI experiment at the LEP accelerator, along with the late Prof. Paolo Poropat. He became full professor at the University of Trieste in 1987 in the Faculty of Engineering where he taught the Physics main course for many years. He subsequently became Director of the local section of the  National Institute of Nuclear Physics (1991-1997).

He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Elettra at the Area Science Park from 1991 to 2001.
His more recent research activity has addressed high energy cosmic radiation.Prof. Guido Barbiellini Amidei is currently co-principal investigator for the AGILE experiment of the Italian Space Agency and is among the founding members of NASA’s international Fermi experiment. Both experiments make use use of silicon detectors, which prof. Barbiellini Amidei was the first to suggest for use in space in 1987. His many colleagues and students have always appreciated his work methods and his ability to create teams collaborating on common projects in connection with his original intuitions.
