Abstract
Road toward XFEL started more a century ago, it has been long and tracheas. Though the light is peeking, there are still many bumps ahead before realizing a XFEL. After a brief review of the status of XFEL R&D, I will first present a top ten list of challenges in the XFEL R&D; and then discuss various options to deal with some of those challenges. The electron source requirements for a XFEL will be examined in the last part of my talk.
