Extreme Light Infrastructure ELI Beamlines

Roman Hvezda
European Infrastructure Projects @ Institute of Physics (Prague)

Abstract
Institute of Physics is a public research institute, oriented on the fundamental and applied research in physics under the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, which is a non-university research organisation generally focused on curiosity-riven, fundamental and applied research. The present research programme of Institute of Physics comprises five branches of physics: particle physics, the physics of condensed matter, solid state physics, optics and plasma physics. Institute of Physics acts as the coordinator of the ELI Project in the Czech Republic (ELI Beamlines), which is a laser facility that aims to host some the most intense lasers world-wide, develop new interdisciplinary research opportunities with light from these lasers and secondary radiation derived from them, and make them available to an international scientific and industrial user community. ELI Beamlines will be the Czech part of ELI ERIC infrastructure from 2018. The other ELI ERIC members will be ELI ALPS (Hungary) and ELI NP (Romania). The laser-driven infrastructure ELI Beamlines aims to provide user access from January 2018 to academic industrial users and technology developers and wants to focus on commercialisation of its intellectual property (e.g. licensed exploitation of scientific outcomes).
