ESOF 2020: towards the hybrid model
(Trieste, 02-06 September 2020)
ESOF2020 has ended, about 2500 people registered for the event, more than 1000 participated in person and 1400 people connected remotely every day, on average each event was attended online by around 300 people, and the event saw 4300 overall virtual visits. ESOF2020 was in the global spotlight: online visitors came from 52 countries across 5 continents.
Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste exhibited with an institutional booth and, as a partner, within the booth of the Working Group RICE both in Hall 28 at ESOF2020 by the Old Port in Trieste. Among the most followed in person talks by the RICE booth, those hosted by Loredana Casalis, Head of the nanotechnology laboratory at Elettra, and Paola Storici, Head the project Exscalete4Cov for Elettra, bradcasted live streaming.

Two the scientific panels by Elettra:
-"Filming Electrons in Motion", with prof. Alfonso Franciosi, President and CEO of Elettra and Claudio Masciovecchio, Director of the Focus Project Elettra; and
-"The Exscalate4CoV project: a journey from HPC to virtual reality. How Computer-Aided Drug Design techniques are supporting the fight against SARS-CoV-2", of which Elettra is a partner.
Lucia Mancini, Senior Scientist at Elettra, was part of te panel : "Illuminating Cultural Heritage: from research to preservation" by CERIC-ERIC.
Within Science for Business, in the satellite event EuroBioHighTech,
the talk of Giovanni Birarda, Beamline Scientist at Elettra, ”How biotech companies could benefit from the experience and knowledge developed at Elettra” in the panel "From Innovative Therapy, Medical Informatic & Bioinformatic, Nutraceutical and Ambient Assisted Colaborative Projects to New industrial and Product Services";
and the talk of Roberto Pugliese, Deputy General Coordinator & Coordinator, IT Group at Elettra, in the panel “Policy for health technology innovation”.
Within the Science in the City Festival:
- the project GEMINI with the musical event: "GEMINI: dal museo al palcoscenico con le tecniche di manifattura digitale" by Wunderkammer, with Giorgio Paolucci, Chief Scientific Officer at Elettra,
- organised by AIRC "#hofiducianellaricerca: i ricercatori AIRC dai loro laboratori di Trieste raccontano come garantire continuità alla ricerca oncologica" with Silvia Onesti , Head of the laboratory of structural biology of Elettra.
The giant board game Scienziopolis, conceived by Cecilia Blasetti, International Project Officer at Elettra, developed in cooperation with ICTP, INAF, OGS, SISSA, Università di Trieste and with the participation of Diego Manna, has entertained and amused adults and kids in Hall 27 at ESOF2020 and in Piazza Unità during the Maker Faire.
