International Workshop HG2013

This year, the International Workshop on Breakdown Science and High Gradient Technology (HG2013) was held at the ICTP Adriatico Guesthouse, from June 3rd to 6th.

The workshop was organized for the first time in Trieste by Elettra, in collaboration with CERN (Geneva), SLAC (USA) and KEK (Japan). It was the 7th of a series of annual meetings organised by CERN, SLAC and KEK since 2007.

The aim of the workshop was to discuss and exchange knowledge in the field of high frequency, high gradient acceleration and to stimulate studies, developments and collaborations. The meeting was also aimed at encouraging and promoting the development of high-gradient technology, widening its use in the modern accelerator field, as a base for new applications.

More than 70 scientists, from several international laboratories, have discussed the state of the art of the high-gradient RF technology which is currently being employed in a wide variety of particle accelerator applications. The first two days have covered the physics of RF breakdowns, normal conducting structures design, RF power sources, high gradient tests and performance, while the last two days have focused on the new high frequency applications for photon sources and FELs. On Thursday, June 6th, a special session has been dedicated to the “Collaboration with Industry”, giving several companies the opportunity to present their developments and technical achievements.
