Andrea Lenzi, President of Italy's National Research Council (CNR), visited Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste today as part of his institutional visit to Trieste. He was welcomed by Elettra's President and CEO, Giovanni Comelli. The visit began with a meeting focused on the long-standing collaboration between Elettra and the CNR, as well as on the strategic role of large-scale research infrastructures in supporting scientific development. Discussions covered the Elettra 2.0 programme and future opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between the two institutions. President Lenzi then toured FERMI, Elettra's free-electron laser facility, where he learned more about its scientific activities and the research opportunities it offers to both the Italian and international scientific communities. |

The visit continued with the inauguration of the new CryoTEM microscope, located at the CNR-IOM laboratories on the Basovizza Campus. The instrument was acquired through funding from Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) as part of the PRP@CERIC-ERIC project, coordinated by AREA Science Park. It strengthens the region's scientific infrastructure and expands research opportunities in materials science and the life sciences. The stop at Elettra was part of President Lenzi's programme of institutional visits to the leading organisations of Trieste's research system, including Area Science Park, the University of Trieste, and the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), underscoring Trieste's strategic role as a center of excellence for research and innovation. |
