On Tuesday, 15 September, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste welcomed a delegation from the Italian Ministry of Defence as part of a programme of meetings with research and higher education institutions across Friuli Venezia Giulia. The visit provided the delegation with an opportunity to learn more about the expertise, research infrastructure and innovation capabilities of the regional scientific ecosystem. The programme involved the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Area Science Park and representatives of the MUR–MIMIT–Friuli Venezia Giulia Region “I-HUB FVG” Memorandum of Understanding.

The Ministry of Defence was represented by Rear Admiral Vito Lacerenza, Deputy Head of the Minister of Defence’s Cabinet, and Rear Admiral Vincenzo Pullez, Head of the Office for Strategic Studies and Technological Innovation. Representatives of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and Area Science Park President Caterina Petrillo also took part in the visit.

Welcomed by Elettra President Giovanni Comelli and members of the company, the delegation was given an overview of Elettra and FERMI’s scientific activities and research infrastructure, followed by a tour of the FERMI LINAC.

The visit to Elettra was part of a broader programme designed to showcase the region’s research and innovation ecosystem, involving several scientific and higher education institutions across Friuli Venezia Giulia, including Area Science Park, with visits to its Padriciano and Basovizza campuses.
