Hemispherical electron analyzer

Photoelectrons with specific kinetic energy range are selected by hemispherical electron analyzer and projected to the channel plate at the analyzer exit slit. The channel plate is a 48 channel electron cascade multiplier set along the dispersive plane of analyzer. The energy window and separation between channels is proportional to the pass energy of analyzer and shown on the table at the bottom. Using mutichannel plate one can reconstruct spectrum from selected area of the sample image.

Spectra reconstructed from the image

On the following figure we illustrate an example of multichannel applications. The images on the figure represent selection of different channels of the same image and the sum of the channels. The spectra reconstructed from the image and taken in normal photoemission spectroscopy mode are shown for comparison.
