The PI of InCIMa participated in the Focus group between members of APRE-FVG (Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea - Friuli Venezia Giulia) and FVG enterprises on Horizon 2020 - Climate Action, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials: European Policies and Financing in the Environment Sector on 12th July 2017 in Trieste (Italy).

InCIMa at Joint Annual Meeting of the Swiss Physical Society and Austrian Physical Society, 21th-25th August 2017, Genève, Switzerland

The Joint Annual Meeting of the Swiss Physical Society and Austrian Physical Society in Genève took place at CERN and at the Centre International de Conférences de Genève (CICG). The InCIMa project, its general concept and the first preliminary results have been presented in two posters by Prof. Maurizio Musso.

InCIMa at COST Action FP1407 3rd Conference: “Wood modification research and applications”, 14th-15th September 2017, Kuchl/Salzburg, Austria

The conference focused on presenting innovative materials and process developments for various wood modification technologies, ecologic solutions and further related challenges with the focus of improving the properties of timber to guarantee a more sustainable usage of wood. A poster presentation of InCIMa was given by Prof. Gianluca Tondi and Dr. Thomas Sepperer.

InCIMa at TRIESTE NEXT, 21th-23th September 2017, Triest, Italy

Trieste NEXT is the window of innovation and applied science, where research institutions and enterprises present their experiences to the general public and show, how smart solutions to public problems can arise from the technology transfer of the most advanced scientific results. Elettra was present at Trieste NEXT 2017 with its stand at Piazza Unità d'Italia, and the InCIMa project was presented to the event participants during three amazing sunny days.

InCIMa at EuroBioHighTech 2017, 21th-22th September 2017, Triest, Italy

EuroBioHighTech 2017 took place in Trieste, at the Palazzo dei Congressi in the Maritime Station, from 21 to 22 September 2017. It is the most important event devoted to the biomedical sector, biotechnology and bioinformatics in the Alpe Adria area, that aims to connect research and enterprise in order to create new development and business opportunities. Elettra was present at EuroBioHighTech 2017 with its stand, and the InCIMa project was presented to the participants for highlighting the project strategy: from molecules to functional materials through meso-scale state-of-the art characterization by photon-based technologies.

InCIMa at the 17th AUSTRIAN CHEMISTRY DAYS - JOINT MEETING OF THE SWISS & AUSTRIAN CHEMICAL SOCIETIES, 25th–28th September 2017, University of Salzburg, Austria

The Austrian Chemistry Days 2017 focuses on the central role that chemistry plays for a variety of fields, ranging from life sciences to functional materials. Perfectly matching the spirit of the meeting, which aims to promote cross-disciplinary discussions that are essential to the emergence of new concepts, the InCIMa project was presented by Prof. Maurizio Musso.

InCIMa at PaGES 3, Triest, Italy InCIMa conribute to the third edition of PaGES - Planning, Management and Implementation of a scientific experiment in an international research infrastructure. PaGES is a project is funded by the Italian Region Friuli Venezia Giulia, within the program "Regional plan for the building up of the formative offer for the academic year 2017/2018", in the section "Special projects", and coordinate by CERIC-ERIC. PaGES gives high school students from the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia the opportunity to have the experience of an innovative educational context. By carrying out all the steps of a scientific experiment at Elettra, trained on data analysis and data presentations in their own Institutions, students will acquire the basic tools for planning, management, execution, evaluation and dissemination of the results of a research project.

Dr. Thomas Sepperer presented InCIMa related activities at the annual meeting of the Applied Sciences Universities ("Fractioning of Industrial Tannin Extract in Different Organic Solvents"), during the session HS 152 - Biomaterials & Processes - chaired by Gianluca Tondi and Thomas Schnabel (FH Salzburg).

Monitoring Committee of the Interreg V-A Italy-Austria cooperation programme at EXOTHERA & InCIMa, 10th April 2018, Triest, Italy

On April 10the, 2018, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste hosted the Monitoring Committee of the European Territorial Cooperation Program for the period 2014-2020 Interreg V-A Italy - Austria; the program is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The Committee includes the representatives of the Authorities, the Regions/Länder partners of the program, the European Commission, the two Member States and of the territorial, social and economic partnership in the cooperation area.

After the official welcome given by the President, Prof. Alfonso Franciosi, the members of the Monitoring Committee had the opportunity to get to know more closely the two projects lead by Elettra, funded in the first call of Interreg VA Italy-Austria: InCIMa and EXOTHERA. The presentations were held in italian by teh sceintists responsible for the two projects, Lisa Vaccari (InCIMa) and Pietro Parisse (EXOTHERA), and in german by the project manager Regina Rochow. They outilned the objectives and the technical-scientific activities of the two projects as well as the expected benefits for the territory and beyond. The visit was perfected with a tour in the experimental synchrotron hall and an aperitif, that offered the possibility of discussions between the members of the Monitoring Committee and the scientific and administrative collaborators of Elettra involved in the projects.

In the science news from the Trieste newspaper IL PICCOLO, the journalist Giulia Basso wrote about Elettra and its two light sources, Elettra Synchrotron and the Free Electron laser, FERMI, in an article entitled Scienziati di tutto il mondo in fila per utilizzare Elettra . Emphasis has been put also on the InCIMa project.

Dr. Thomas Sepperer presented on the topic of purification of tannin extracts, investigated in the framework of InCIMa project, at the 5th International Conference on Processing Technologies for the Forest and Bio-based Products Industries, during the session "New approaches of adhesives".

EuroBioHighTech 2018 took place in Trieste, at the Palazzo dei Congressi in the Maritime Station, from 26 to 27 September 2018. Elettra was present at EuroBioHighTech 2018 with its stand, where the roll-up of the InCIMa project was presented to the participants by Dr. Lisa Vaccari.

InCIMa at Trieste Next 2018 and European Researchers’ Night Sharper, 28th-30th September 2018, Triest, Italy

For the second year, InCIMa partecipated to Trieste NEXT, setting its activties at the stand of the project lead partner, the stand of the project lead partner,Elettra, focused on IDEA (Interactive Display of Electron and Atoms), an installation which uses music to explore the properties of matter and scientific data to inspire musical composition. At the Elettra stand there was also a corner for the ELETTRA INTERREG CAFÈ, where Dr. Gianluca Tondi and Dr. Lisa Vaccari explained to very young and interested budding scientists the importance of teh carbon cycle. On the same dates, at SHARPER, Dr. Gianluca Tondi gave a street talk on its reserach activity, showing his materials and benefits of green-chemistry.

In the poster session, Dr. Nicola Cefarin presented the poster P-54 X-ray and FTIR µ-CTs for morphological and chemical characterization of eco-sustainable insulating foams .

InCIMa at PaGES 4, Triest, Italy

InCIMa contributed also to the fourth edition of PaGES - Planning, Management and Implementation of a scientific experiment in an international research infrastructure, coordinate by CERIC-ERIC. Accordingly to the scheme already optimized during previous years, young students of Liceo Copernico (Udine, Italy) and Margini Marhcetti (Gemona del Friuli, Italy) were scientists for a day with InCIMa researchers at SISSI and IUVS beamlines at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste.

A television program, titled High technology with smart materials, has been broadcast on 1 march 2019 by the Italian RAI News - Futuro 24. Conclusive Workshop of InCIMa, 23th-24th May 2019, Triest, Italy

The conclusive WS of the InCIMa project held over two days on 23-24 May 2019 in Trieste, at Salone di Rappresentanza del Palazzo della Regione FVG in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, as integral and promotor and constitutive part of the event Bioeconomy and Bio-based Industry for the Rural Renaissance of Regions (3BiR3): focus regionale sulla bioeconomia e la bioindustria. 3BiR3, supported by proESOF 2020, has been organized by the Regione Autonoma Friuli Venezia Giulia (RAFVG), the university of Università di Trieste,the Italian cluster for green chemistry (SPRING) and by the Interreg Italy-Austria project InCIMa, with support provided by Power4Bio, Biovoices and Biobridges projects, in collaboration with Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, the regional cluster AgrifoodFVG, the University of Udine, the initiative BioeconomyDay and Biofarma SpA. 3BiR3 underpinned on the topics of bioeconomy and bioindustry a diverse audience, that counts among the 139 people who registered to the event prominent political and business figures, as well as policy-makers responsible for the implementation of bioeconmy in Europe. Bioeconomy and bioindustry pave the way to a more innovative, resource efficient and competitive society that reconciles food security with the sustainable use of biotic renewable resources for industrial purposes, while ensuring environmental protection.

PLUS master students visit Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste

On the 8th and 9th July 2019, Prof. Maurizio Musso and Prof. Oliver Diwald organized for the students of the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg attending the international master study program Chemistry and Physics of Materials a guided tour of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste. The PLUS students and professors enjoyed very much the visit, introduced by tutorial presentations on synchrotron radiation by Dr. Andrea Lausi, and on XPS, UPS/ARPES and related microscopy techniques by Dr. Matteo Amati, and will plan this activity also for the next academic year.
