Venue
The workshop will be held in Arcidosso (see Comune and touristic places), close to the city of Siena, from the afternoon of the 19th of September 2017 till the evening of the 22nd of September. The meeting will take place in the historically evocative scenario of the 11th century Aldrobrandescan castle, atop a hill dominating the nearby valley. The castle was restored in 1989, and preserves all the atmosphere of medieval times. A welcome cocktail and a social dinner will be part of the social program.
Although heating is available in the castle, warm clothes might be needed in case of low temeperatures.
Local attractions include:
- Aldobrandescan castle (Video), which hosts two permanent expositions on, respectively, the medieval town of Arcidosso, and the revolutionary character of David Lazzaretti
- Roman and medieval architecture (see churches and Palazzo Giovannini)

- Theater of Unanimi
Travel Information:
Since there is neither railway station nor taxi in Arcidosso, the participants are invited to indicate their arrival and departure date in the Registration form and if they require shuttle service, possibly specifying the estimated arrivale time. A complementary shuttle bus will be arranged from the 18th to the early afternoon of the 19th of September, and from the afternoon of the 22nd to the morning of the 23rd of September, in order to facilitate the transfer of participants from and to Civitella-Paganico Railway Station. By TRAIN
There is no railway station in Arcidosso, the closest one being in the town of Paganico, called 'Civitella-Paganico'.
From North:
- Check routes Firenze/Siena/Civitella-Paganico or Genova/Grosseto/Civitella-Paganico
From South:
- Check the route Roma/Grosseto/Civitella-Paganico

Warning: trains to and from Civitella-Paganico are interrupted because of a landslide. The Italian railways Company allows you to buy tickets from and to Civitella-Paganico, but please note that the service between Buonconvento and Grosseto Stations to Civitella-Paganico is carried out by the Company buses. Hence, you are expected to make a transfer from train (bus) to bus (train).
By BUS
You can reach Paganico from the Fiumicino airport of Rome by buses of the Tiemme company.
You can reach Arcidosso by public bus from, for example, Paganico, Grosseto, Siena or Firenze, using the buses of the Rama company.
A combination of train and/or public buses is often needed in order to reach Arcidosso, such as from Rome Fiumicino airport (Tiemme bus from Rome to Paganico, Rama bus from Paganico to Arcidosso) or Pisa (train from Pisa to Paganico, Rama bus from Paganico to Arcidosso)
By CAR
If you have planned to reach Arcidosso by car, you can have your route programmed by an internet site, see for example http://www.comune.arcidosso.gr.it/come-arrivare/. Distances of Arcidosso from main towns in central and southern Tuscany are: Grosseto (55km, 1:00h), Siena (85km, 1:20h), Firenze (150km, 2:20h), Pisa (200km, 2:30h).
