SuperESCA and its users

The experimental possibilities offered by the SuperESCA beamline attract several research groups from national and international research centers and universities. Since 1998, more than 570 proposals requesting beamtime at SuperESCA have been submitted to the Elettra Proposal review Panel for evaluation. So far, more than 180 experiments have been approved and carried out on the beamline, and their results published in peer reviewed international scientific journals.  Users submitting a proposal for the first time are warmly invited to browse our publication list in order to get a better overview of the beamline capabilities and typical experiments.

Research fields

Research ranges from surface physics and chemistry to material science and nanotechnolgy. SuperESCA is an excellent tool for XPS investigatigations on the correlation between structural and electronic properties of surfaces and nanostructured materials. Fast XPS acquisitions, on the other hand, give the possibility to monitor in situ dynamic processes such as surface functionalization and chemical reactions. Moreover, the systems under investigation can be further characterized by means of X-ray absorptions (XAS) measurements, while X-ray photoelectron diffraction (XPD) can be used to  determine their surface structure.

Research @ SuperESCA

The SuperESCA group has strong interest in several topics in surface science. Research fields vary from catalytic reactions on single crystals and model catalysts, to growth and characterization of low-dimensional systems such as graphene, hexagonal boron nitride and supported nanoclusters, as well as surface and thin-film structure determination using X-ray photoelectron diffraction. Furthermore, the group is carrying out collaborative research with several groups affiliated to well-known Universities and Research Institutions (see the contacts section).
