Management System

A pioneer among European synchrotron light sources, since January 2015 Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste has been awarded the ISO 9001:2008 certification for the quality management system and the BS OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001:2007 standard certification.
After updating the system to the version ISO 9001:2015 of the norm, the scope was progressively extended to include the whole research center.

In 2018 Elettra was awarded the ISO 29990:2011 certification for the learning services and non-formal education training‎ and, in 2020, it moved, in the field of workers' safety and health management, from the BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 standard to the ISO 45001: 2018 standard.

This is the result of a huge effort in managing and monitoring the company processes carried on in the past years and witness the quality and the continuous improvement of the services offered by Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste to scientific researchers and customers.
This acknowledgements, on one hand, witnesses the quality level of our scientific research and, on the other hand, it further strengthens the liaison between Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and industry due to the compliance with a common management standards.

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is currently the only synchrotron lightsource facility worldwide, awarded with both ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certifications.

Integrated Management System Policy pdf

First among all European synchrotrons, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste (hereinafter, Elettra) obtained in 2015 the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System certification and the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety certification. Following the upgrade of the quality management system to the new ISO 9001:2015 version of the standard, its scope of application has been progressively extended to include the entire research center.
Presently, Elettra is the only international research center worldwide, specializing in the generation of synchrotron light and free-electron laser, that is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified. In the light of the introduction in the ISO standards of the concept of High Level Structure, and of the opportunity to also certify its own Energy Management System (ISO 50001:2018), Elettra has opted for a shift to an Integrated Quality, Safety and Energy Management System.
