eduroam: Education Roaming

eduroam (Education Roaming) is a worldwide wireless service developed for international researcher and educational community.
The users can connect to the visited institution wireless (WLAN) using their home institution user credentials: no further request are needed.

The eduroam service is based on 802.1X standard and a hierarchy of RADIUS proxy servers. Made by European Educational and Researcher networks, includes 35 European country, USA, Canada and 10 country of Asia and Pacific zone as Australia, China, Japan and Taiwan; more details here.
The Italian Eduroam Federation is organised by GARR that is the delegate into other federations.

The user must respect the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), backwards behaviours are forbidden even if permitted in other institutions.TTLS/MSCHAPv2

Configuration and support

To connect to eduroam network at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste you must enable 802.1X connection protocol with PEAP/MSCHAPv2 or TTLS/MSCHAPv2 authentication methods; then use your home institution user credentials to authenticate yourself.

CAT - eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool

To ease the configuration of any device for eduroam connections at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, we suggest to use the CAT service provided by the eduroam consortium.
Just download your eduroam installer from the site above and run the executable file: this will automatically configure your eduroam connection.
For mobile devices you could  install the Eduroam CAT app or Geteduroam App, search for "Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste" and follow instructions with the data explained in the next section.
For people working at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, a UniPass account is needed.

Elettra UniPass Account and Password

If you have an Elettra VUO/UniPass account, just use those credentials to login to eduroam. In other words, use the password you already are using for your emailing and VUO login.
For the username, please just use the full <user_name> @ elettra.eu syntax.
