On May 12–13, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste hosted the twelfth edition of DEELS 2025 – Diagnostics Experts of European Light Sources, the annual gathering of the European community of specialists in beam diagnostics for particle accelerators.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for experts from various laboratories to exchange updates on ongoing activities, share recent results and operational experiences, and discuss common technical challenges in the field.

This year again, the workshop featured the format introduced in the previous edition, combining traditional oral presentations with the more informal discussion trigger. This format encourages speakers to introduce a topic and spark open dialogue, with the goal of actively involving all participants in the discussion.

During the event, participants had the chance to visit the accelerators of the facilities, including the FERMI Free Electron Laser and the new laboratory dedicated to the characterization of magnets developed for the ELETTRA 2.0 project.

Among the most discussed topics, particular attention was given to the development of pick-ups for Beam Position Monitors and photon-based diagnostic systems for measuring the size of electron beams. These technologies are essential for the new light sources currently in the design phase (such as ALBA II and SOLEIL II) or under construction (ELETTRA 2.0, SLS II).

The workshop welcomed contributions from researchers affiliated with institutions including KIT, HZB, NCPS Solaris UJ, and ESRF, and was also attended by representatives of companies in the sector, such as Instrumentation Technologies d.o.o. and Silicon Austria Labs GmbH.
