1993-2023 | 30 years of light for Elettra

October 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Elettra storage ring's first beam and the commencement of its operations.

It's a significant occasion to reflect on its achievements and look forward to the future with enthusiasm. Over these three decades, Elettra has firmly established itself as a leading research center in synchrotron light.

The 30th anniversary celebration is not just a moment of appreciation for those who have contributed to its construction and activities over the past three decades but also an opportunity to outline future projects.

Elettra 2.0 represents the natural evolution of this scientific excellence, aiming to overcome current technological constraints and expand the frontiers of research and future source developments.

Elettra is involved with a series of initiatives as part of the Trieste Science + Fiction Festival.

In the context of the exhibition "Alabarde Spaziali (Double Harken): 60 years of Festivals and Science Fiction in Trieste” , a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the International Science Fiction Film Festival of Trieste (1963-1982), held in the historic Bastione Fiorito of the San Giusto Castle, an experimental chamber of Elettra, reworked as an extraordinary exhibition object, is on display within the section that sees the interaction between science and science fiction.

On November 1 2023 at 12:00 noon, in the Adriatic Room of the DoubleTree by Hilton Trieste, Silvia Onesti, Head of Elettra's Structural Biology Laboratory, will give a lecture entitled "Farmaci creati dall’AI: dalla fantascienza alla scienza” (Drugs created by AI: from science fiction to science) as part of the prestigious Mondofuturo cycle of fanta+scientific meetings 

Furthermore, on 31 October 2023 at 11 am, at the Casa del Cinema di Trieste, Maja de'Simoni, Elettra's Communication Activities, will present "Scienza+Audiovisual: Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste” ("Science+Audiovisual: Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste”) a Special Event Trieste to explore future opportunities for film collaborations with a scientific subject, as part of the "Mondi fantastici” ("Fantastic Worlds”) exhibition on Science Doc Day.

On the afternoon of 18 November 2023, the 'Scacchi Lampo 5’ + 3"' tournament, organised in collaboration with ASD Laboratorio scacchi, will take place in the Elettra Experimental hall where 40 young and adult players, both professional and amateur, will participate. Poster
