The official kick-off of the QUASAR-FVG project (Quantum Science and Advanced Research in FVG) took place yesterday at Palazzo della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia, the seat of the Regional Government. The initiative is dedicated to the development and consolidation of expertise in quantum computing and quantum technologies across the region.

The event was also attended by the Regional Councillor for University and Research, Alessia Rosolen, highlighting the importance of the project in strengthening the scientific and technological ecosystem of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The project involves a broad scientific partnership led by the Università degli Studi di Trieste as coordinating institution, together with the Università degli Studi di Udine, SISSA, CNR-INO, CNR-IOM and Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste. For Elettra, the scientific contact within the project is George Kourousias, reflecting the company’s growing commitment in the field of quantum technologies.

QUASAR-FVG aims to develop advanced skills, infrastructures and interdisciplinary synergies, with the objective of positioning Friuli Venezia Giulia as a reference hub in the European quantum research landscape. In this context, Elettra’s contribution will focus on the integration of quantum technologies with large-scale research infrastructures, with particular attention to the potential offered by synchrotron light for the study and characterisation of quantum systems.

The launch of the project represents a significant step towards building a regional quantum innovation ecosystem capable of connecting fundamental research, technological development and industrial applications.
