On 8 and 9 November 2023, Elettra took part in “Promuovere l'innovazione nelle scienze della vita Friuli-Venezia Giulia, The Place to be” (Promoting Innovation in Life Sciences Friuli-Venezia Giulia, The Place to be), an event dedicated to the Life Sciences research ecosystem in Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The event offered a series of exhibition spaces, plenary lectures and parallel in-depth sessions. Marco Peloi, Head of the Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) at Elettra talked in the session entitled 'The role of technology transfer in bringing innovation to citizens', "Thanks to technology transfer, the skills of the researchers working at Elettra are available to companies and their needs," highlighted Peloi, "this partnership allows companies to use new technologies to innovate products, services and industrial processes."

Elettra participated in the event as an integral part of the Scientific and Innovation System of FVG (SiS FVG), sharing a common exhibition space with the leading research institutions in the field of Life Sciences in FVG. At the SIS FVG booth Loredana Casalis, coordinator of Elettra's NanoLab, described some of the methodologies that researchers exploit to capture the atomic structure of cells: "At Elettra, X-ray imaging and nanotechnology techniques are being developed and used in parallel, which combined can lead to a detailed understanding of the molecular structures within cells and tissues. This is a fundamentally important step towards understanding diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders."

The initiative, strongly wanted and supported by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region, is realised by the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Life Sciences Cluster - Polo Alto Adriatico Andrea Galvani Technology Centre, with The European House-Ambrosetti as content partner.
