The sixth edition of the IAEA 'Training Workshop on Synchrotron Technologies and Techniques and their Applications' took place from the 26th to the 30th of May 2025, at Elettra.
Organized by IAEA and Elettra, this event represented a great opportunity to learn about synchrotron radiation. The lectures, delivered by researchers from Elettra and IAEA, were followed by 9 IAEA-supported students, from 9 different countries, and 5 additional students in the framework of different collaborations and projects involving Elettra (internships, OPVStability, and NEPHEWS). The program showcased the capabilities of synchrotron radiation, covering key techniques exploiting X-rays and infrared radiation. A range of applications were explored, including (but not limited to) environmental science, archaeometry, energy materials and materials science. During the hands-on tutorials, the Elettra and CERIC-ERIC staff of the XAFS, XRF, and SISSI beamlines guided the participants towards a successful use of synchrotron radiation for different kinds of scientific questions. Furthermore, the participants had the chance to visit the XRD1 beamline.

The program also included a lecture on proposal writing, followed by a dedicated time for participants to work on drafting their proposals.
Elettra and IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) have a long-standing collaboration. Since 2005 Elettra has been "IAEA Collaborating Centre” and has endorsed the Agency’s activities in disseminating scientific and technical culture and promoting international networks among the research communities worldwide. Since 2012, IAEA has runned in partnership with Elettra the XRF beamline.
