Elettra opens a new IAEA facility by hosting a major IAEA event. (Press review)

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is opening to users a new X-ray fluorescence (XRF) facility constructed and operated jointly by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Elettra. To launch the new facility Elettra is hosting a major IAEA event in Trieste at which eighteen countries are represented. The IAEA First Meeting of the Coordinated Research Project (CRP) on Experiments with Synchrotron Radiation for Modern Environmental and Industrial Applications is being held from July 21 through July 25, 2014.

The major goal of this IAEA Coordinated Research Project is to enhance the competence and expertise of leading scientists from IAEA Member States in using the unique research opportunities offered at the Elettra synchrotron radiation center with impact on relevant R&D activities and technology transfer.
 
This meeting and the new XRF facility have been organized in the framework of the established partnership between the two institutions. Since 2005 Elettra is a "Collaborating Centre” of the IAEA, with the task of supporting the activities of the Agency in its function of disseminating technical and scientific culture, promoting training and building international networks between research groups.
 
This forum will provide the opportunity to scientists representing Australia, Austria, Croatia, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Jordan, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, and the U.S., to present their research projects, relevant to the development of analytical methodologies based on synchrotron light and focused on applications using the IAEA endstation at the XRF facility of Elettra.
 
The research projects span over studies of structured materials for energy storage and conversion technologies, biosensing technologies and nanomedicine design, environmental monitoring, biology, cultural heritage and preventive conservation, food products safety and study of fundamental X-ray interactions and parameters.
