Offline facilities will ensure continuity of research during the transition Phase towards Elettra 2.0
During the scheduled shutdown of the Elettra accelerator in the second half of 2025 - marking the beginning of the construction work for Elettra 2.0 - the offline facilities will play a strategic role in ensuring the continuity of the institute’s scientific activities. In this same period, as part of the transition phase towards Elettra 2.0, new advanced infrastructures will become operational: SISSI-Bio offline, IUVS offline, and Tomolab, offering the scientific community benchtop instruments for vibrational spectroscopy, imaging, and X-ray computed tomography. Access will be granted through a peer-reviewed selection process, as part of semi-annual calls for proposals. The first call closed at the end of March 2025, and the Peer Review Panel has recently convened to evaluate the submitted proposals. For industry-oriented research projects, access remains available through the dedicated Industrial Liaison Office. |

These new facilities complement existing ones—TeraFERMI offline, T-Rex, and CITIUS, part of the FERMI programme. Together, they help maintain a dynamic research environment, supporting the continuation of experiments, the development of new instrumentation, and training activities—even in the absence of the synchrotron light beam. |
