Brussels, 23 April 2026 — Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste took part in the EuPRAXIA Showcase Event 2026, a high-level meeting that brought together representatives from the European Commission, ESFRI, funding agencies, industry and the international scientific community to discuss the future of plasma acceleration technologies and European research infrastructures.

Elettra’s participation took place within the framework of the European project PACRI, coordinated by Gerardo D’Auria, which develops plasma accelerator technologies for next-generation facilities such as EuPRAXIA and ELI Beamlines.

The Showcase highlighted the strong scientific and strategic connections between EuPRAXIA and PACRI, both aimed at enabling more compact, efficient and high-performance accelerators, with applications ranging from fundamental research to medicine and industry.

Significant attention was devoted to dialogue with European policymakers on funding prospects for research infrastructures and on synergies across Horizon Europe programmes, confirming the value of integrated models linking research, innovation and technology transfer.

Elettra was represented at the event also by its President and CEO Alfonso Franciosi, while the participation of Kyma — Elettra’s spin-off, represented by Managing Director Raffaella Geometrante — highlighted the role of the innovation ecosystem linked to research infrastructures.

With more than 38 laboratories involved and around €150 million already mobilised, EuPRAXIA is one of Europe’s most significant initiatives in advanced accelerator technologies. For Elettra, the Brussels meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen collaborations, highlight PACRI’s contribution and contribute to the European dialogue on future research infrastructures.

About EuPRAXIA: EuPRAXIA is a major European initiative to develop the world’s first user-oriented plasma-based accelerator research infrastructure.
