European Workshop on Epitaxial Graphene and 2D Materials EWEG/2D’24 conference in Trieste

From May 14th to 18th, the highly successful 6th edition of the European Workshop on Epitaxial Graphene and 2D Materials EWEG/2D’24 conference, jointly organized and chaired by Silvano Lizzit from Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and Rosanna Larciprete from Istituto dei Sistemi Complessi CNR-ISC took place in Trieste. The conference focused on cutting-edge developments in the research on graphene and the broader family of 2D materials, attracting leading scientists and researchers from around the world.
The conference featured a robust agenda with two keynote and eleven invited speakers, 31 contributed talks, and 20 poster presentations. With 90 participants coming from 17 different countries, including European nations, China, the USA, and Canada, the event highlighted its significant international reach and impact. A key highlight of the conference was the recognition of outstanding young scientists through two prestigious awards. Teresa Zio from Università degli Studi di Trieste and CNR-IOM Trieste received the Best Talk Award, while Elisa Serrano Richaud from the Université Paris-Saclay, ONERA, CNRS Châtillon, France won the Best Poster Award. Both winners were chosen from a competitive pool of over ten participants in each category, underscoring the high quality of the scientific contributions. Six companies sponsored the conference, with three of them hosting booths at the event. SPECSGROUP sponsored the Best Talk Award, MB Scientific AB sponsored the Best Poster Award, and PREVAC also had a booth. The sponsors were thrilled with the enthusiastic feedback and engaging interactions they had with the participants. The conference concluded on a high note, with organizers and participants expressing great satisfaction with the event's scientific and social aspects.
