On July 27th, 2023 Elettra welcomed 27 participants of the Joint ICTP-IAEA Nuclear Energy Management School.

This School is a certificate course introducing participants to the foundation skills and knowledge required to successfully manage and lead a nuclear energy programme. The target audience for this training event is new and young nuclear professionals entering the field of nuclear energy and nuclear technology.

Giorgio Paolucci, Elettra Chief Scientific Officer, started with a lecture on synchrotron radiation highlighting some recent results of Elettra and  Fermi and introducing the project Elettra 2.0. Dariusz Brosko followed showing the scientific opportunities given by CERIC-ERIC and Katia Casarin gave an exhaustive explanation of the Personnel Safety system of Elettra and FERMI. Afterwards the visitors could see the PSS directly at one of the Elettra beamlines and visited the MCX beamline where Lara Gigli showed the beamline instrumentation and some of the applications of synchrotron radiation powder diffraction.
At the end of the visit the participants were accompanied at the FERMI control room where Andrea Apollonio and Francesco Tripaldi, although both machines are in shutdown, could explain the procedures and operations of Elettra and FERMI. The visitors followed the lectures with great interest and curiosity and enjoyed the visit both at the experimental hall and the control room.

Since 2005 Elettra is "IAEA Collaborating Centre” and endorses the Agency’s activities in disseminating scientific and technical culture and promoting international networks among the research communities worldwide. IAEA also is a Partner of the XRF beamline at Elettra since 2012.
