Academic Year 2012-2013 of the University of Trieste: inaugural lecture of Prof. Parmigiani

The Academic Year 2012-2013 of the University of Trieste was officially started during an opening ceremony at the "Giuseppe Verdi"  theatre on March 4th.

During the event, Fulvio Parmigiani, Professor of Physics and Head of Scientific Programs of FERMI, gave the inaugural lecture "Light and Matter".

In his presentation, Prof. Parmigiani described the great scientific potentialities at the FERMI Free Electron Laser (FEL) for our Laboratory and for the Italian physics community. Emphasis was given in particular on the X-ray pulses generated by FERMI. The light pulses are entirely coherent and their polarization can be varied from linear to circular.
