LEAPS INNOV Big Science supplier forum: discussions on how to optimize the connection between industry and research infrastructures

Elettra took part in the Big Science supplier forum on 1st December 2023 organized at the ALBA Synchrotron as part of the European project LEAPS INNOV.
During the event that saw over 120 participants, members of the attending research institutions, administrations and companies discussed on how to optimize the connection between industry and research infrastructures for integrating innovation and production of new technologies.
Five representatives from lightsources that are upgrading their facilities in the next years ALBA, PETRA IV (DESY), Diamond, Elettra and Soleil introduced the technological challenges that are facing: new type of magnets, radio frequency or vacuum systems but also innovative civil constructions.
Marco Peloi, head of ILO at Elettra, gave the presentation ‘ELETTRA 2.0 planning and opportunities’ introducing the Elettra 2 project by focusing on aspects related to the technological, instrumentation and equipment requirements and their purchasing methods.
The poster and networking session was very useful for the Companies to know in advance the main investments needed for the upgrade of the synchrotrons during the next decade.
