Majed Chergui Awarded the 2026 Optica William F. Meggers Award

Majed CherguiChirax Project Leader at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the William F. Meggers Award by Optica, the international society dedicated to advancing optics and photonics worldwide.
 
Founded in 1916, Optica is a leading global organization for scientists, engineers, students, and professionals working in the science of light, supporting the generation and dissemination of knowledge through high-impact publications, conferences, and educational initiatives.
 
Majed Chergui is honored for his pioneering contributions to ultrafast linear and nonlinear optical and X-ray spectroscopy, and for his seminal studies of the electronic and structural dynamics of (bio)chemical systems and materials. His work has had a profound impact on chemical physics and materials science.
Established in 1970, the William F. Meggers Award recognizes outstanding achievements in spectroscopy. With this distinction, Majed Chergui joins an esteemed group of scientists whose research has significantly advanced the field.

He was also recently awarded the Great Arab Minds Award in Natural Sciences, a prestigious international recognition honoring scientific excellence in the Arab world, presented by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
