On Thursday 18 December, on the occasion of Elettra’s Christmas plenary meeting, the President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Alfonso Franciosi, presented the Elettra Fellow recognition plaque to Dr. Maya Kiskinova.

The Board of Directors of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste appoints as “Elettra Fellow” distinguished scientists and administrators who have made a decisive contribution to fulfilling Elettra’s mission and achieving its institutional objectives.
By appointing an Elettra Fellow, Elettra expresses its gratitude for the recipient’s contribution and looks forward to maintaining a long-lasting scientific relationship in the future.

Dr. Maya Kiskinova is a leading experimental chemist, internationally recognized for her fundamental contributions to the study of nanostructured materials, catalysis, surfaces and interfaces, and transient states of matter at the submicrometer scale, using synchrotron and free-electron laser radiation.
Since 1991, she has established and successfully developed the ESCAMicroscopy and NanoSpectroscopy beamlines at Elettra, turning them into reference facilities at the international level. Her work has been supported by major European and Humboldt Foundation grants.

Since 2011, she has coordinated the nanospectroscopy programs at Elettra and played a key role in the FERMI project, leading the implementation of the DiProI beamline. Thanks to the unique properties of FERMI’s seeded FEL pulses, DiProI is now recognized as a world-leading facility for coherent diffraction imaging.

Over more than thirty years, Dr. Kiskinova has provided essential scientific and strategic guidance to the institution.
