A team of scientists from Elettra - Sincrotrone Trieste, the Physics Dep. of the University of Trieste and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, California, have discovered that significant changes of the optical properties of semiconductors can be observed by applying strong electric fields capable to modify the band structure at equilibrium.
