New Facility Delivered for the Temporary Storage of Decommissioned Components from the Elettra Accelerator

A new facility for the temporary storage of decommissioned components from the Elettra accelerator has recently been completed and handed over. Named Temporary Storage Building (RP), it is located next to the existing area used for the short-term deposit of dismantled equipment, near Building "R".

The single-level building consists of a single open space, with a net floor area of 700 m² and an internal height of 4.5 meters. It is built with a steel frame and clad with insulated sandwich panels, providing durability and thermal insulation.

Together with Building LB — dedicated to the measurement and testing of new magnets — the RP facility completes the set of support buildings developed to accompany the Elettra 2.0 upgrade, ensuring a smooth and safe transition to the next-generation infrastructure.

At present, the facility houses three undulators removed from the former GasPhase beamline.
