PRP@CERIC advanced schools to strengthen global preparedness against infectious diseases

The Pathogen Readiness Platform for CERIC-ERIC upgrade (PRP@CERIC) project, funded by the Next Generation EU through Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), aims to improve the understanding of infectious diseases. In addition to the platform and its digital ecosystem, it includes the organisation of a series of Advanced Schools to be held at partner sites.
Area Science Park, CNR and Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste have joined forces to organise two schools: the Structural Biology School and the Phenotypic Fingerprinting School.
The Structural Biology School, which has just started and is coordinated by Federica Mantovani, Chiara De Vita, Paola Storici, Silvia Onesti and Alberto Cassetta, aims to identify the 3D structures of macromolecules, providing crucial insights into viral replication and survival, which are key to the development of treatments such as vaccines and antiviral drugs. The school will provide participants with theoretical and practical skills in drug design and understanding molecular interactions.

Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste provides advanced laboratories for studying biological structures and experts such as Nicola Demitri, Stefano Morasso, Silvia Onesti, Maurizio Polentarutti, Paola Storici and Heinz Amenitsch (Graz University of Technology) that will provide their expertise in both oral and practical sessions.
The programme will last four weeks, divided into three sessions, after which the Phenotypic Fingerprinting School will begin. |
