|
The collaboration between Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, the National Research Council (CNR), and the University of Trieste was at the centre of the institutional visit of Rector Donata Vianelli, who met with the Elettra and CNR scientific community at the Basovizza campus on the morning of Friday, 20 March 2026. The Rector, accompanied among others by Erik Vesselli, Delegate of the Rector for technology transfer and relations with research institutions at the University of Trieste, and by Giuseppe Della Ricca, Director of the Department of Physics, was welcomed at the main entrance by Giorgio Paolucci, Federico Boscherini and Giovanni Comelli, before being escorted to the FERMI exhibition area. There, she met a delegation of researchers representing the two research institutions. |

The visit was structured around two main institutional presentations. Alfonso Franciosi, President and CEO of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, introduced the facility’s activities and future development perspectives, highlighting its role within the international research landscape. This was followed by a presentation from Federico Boscherini, Director of IOM-CNR, who provided an overview of CNR activities in Trieste, outlining the network of institutes and main research lines, with particular emphasis on synergies with Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and the close connection with the University of Trieste. The programme continued with a guided tour of the FERMI experimental hall, led by Claudio Masciovecchio, followed by visits to research laboratories across the campus. In particular, the Rector visited the Nanoscale Materials Laboratory, presented by Alessandro Baraldi, and the CNR-IOM laboratories, illustrated by Cristina Africh and Giovanni Comelli. The visit provided an important opportunity to consolidate the already strong collaborations with the University of Trieste and to outline new avenues for joint development. |
