Science Diplomacy at the Heart of the MAECI Visit to Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste

On Thursday, January 29, Dr. Lamberto Moruzzi, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and Director General for Science, Space and Sports Diplomacy, visited Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste as part of a broader programme of meetings aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of research infrastructures and scientific activities in the region. Welcomed by Giorgio Paolucci, Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Moruzzi took part in an institutional presentation in the FERMI exhibition area. Here, President and CEO Alfonso Franciosi illustrated the features and potential of the two light laboratories, Elettra and FERMI, highlighting their role in international research and in the development of high-level scientific collaborations. Also attending the meeting were Giovanni Comelli, Member of the Board of Directors, Claudio Masciovecchio, Head of Time-Resolved Experimental Techniques at FERMI, Marco Peloi, Head of the Industrial Liaison Office, and Maja de’ Simoni, Head of Communications. |

During the discussion, strong interest emerged in international cooperation initiatives, with particular attention to the strategic synergies between science diplomacy and large research infrastructures. The visit represented an important opportunity for institutional dialogue for the research centre, confirming Elettra’s role as a key player in the landscape of global scientific cooperation and in promoting science as a tool for relations between countries. |
