Friday, May 30, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste hosted an important institutional visit: the new Chief of Police of Trieste, Dr. Lilia Fredella, accompanied by Delfina Di Stefano, an officer of the Trieste State Police. The delegation was welcomed by Deputy General Coordinator Marco Marazzi, Claudio Masciovecchio, Manager for the time resolved experimental techniques at FERMI, and by President and CEO Alfonso Franciosi, who gave an introductory presentation on Elettra’s activities, its significance in the European scientific landscape, and future prospects related to innovation and technological development.

The visit continued with a stop at two of the operational beamlines: Syrmep, coordinated by Giuliana Tromba, and XRD1, coordinated by Maurizio Polentarutti. The delegation had the opportunity to closely observe the sophisticated equipment used by scientists to study matter at the atomic and molecular level.

Finally, Claudio Masciovecchio guided the group to the FERMI laboratory, the only free-electron laser of its kind in Italy, which stands as a world-class center of excellence in photonics research. The guests were able to hear firsthand accounts of the daily work and scientific challenges faced in the laboratories.

The visit concluded with the hope of future collaborations between local institutions and the research community, in a spirit of synergy aimed at promoting the region and the human capital that drives it
