Yesterday, October 14, the Councillor for Territorial Policies of the Municipality of Trieste, Dr. Michele Babuder, visited the international research center Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste for a meeting aimed at strengthening collaborations between the research infrastructure and the local area.

Accompanied by Marco Marazzi, Deputy General Coordinator, and by Michele De Franceschi, Chief Financial Officer, the Councillor attended a presentation by Maurizio Polentarutti on the center’s scientific activities, with a focus on cutting-edge technologies. Alessandra Gianoncelli showcased the TwinMic beamline, an advanced instrument for X-ray microscopy, while Laura Foglia led the visit to FERMI, the free-electron laser used for advanced research in physics, chemistry, and molecular biology.

One of the topics discussed during the morning was a project that Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is assessing: the construction of a photovoltaic park at the Scoria quarry, whose proximity to the site would allow energy to be transported directly to the research facilities, enhancing the operational efficiency of the two light sources, Elettra and FERMI.
