Visit of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Italy, Jia Guide, to Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste

On Monday, 27 October 2025, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste had the honour of welcoming His Excellency Mr. Jia Guide, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Italy, accompanied by a delegation from the Chinese Embassy composed of Mr Lu Ping, Minister Counsellor for Scientific and Educational Affairs, Mr Huang Ruikai, Head of the Political Office, Ms Hao Xiaotong, Third Secretary of the Office for Science and Education, Mr Zhong Yi, Third Secretary of the Commercial Office, and Ms Zeng Zhuo, Attaché of the Political Office and interpreter of the delegation.

The guests were welcomed upon their arrival at the campus by Luca Giannessi, Marco Marazzi, and Giorgio Paolucci. The visit continued with an institutional presentation of Elettra and FERMI, delivered by Alfonso Franciosi, President and CEO of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, and attended also by Claudio Masciovecchio, Enrico Allaria, and Giuseppe Penco.

During the meeting, Ambassador Jia Guide and the members of the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about the research activities carried out using synchrotron light and the FERMI free-electron laser. They also met Chinese researchers involved in scientific projects at Elettra, including Min Li (XAFS beamline) and, remotely, Mingcheng Wang, a visiting PhD student at the LDM beamline.
The visit continued with a tour of the FERMI experimental halls and the external perimeter of the Elettra 2.0 construction site, including a stop at the FERMI Control Room, guided by Claudio Masciovecchio, Luca Giannessi, Enrico Allaria, and Giuseppe Penco.
 
The meeting represented an important opportunity for dialogue on scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and China, within a framework of growing collaboration in advanced research and large-scale scientific facilities.

Before leaving, the Ambassador left a courteous message in the guest book of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, stating: “A center for international cooperation in scientific research, a platform for understanding the microcosm, a ladder for the progress of human civilization and a model for Sino-Italian scientific and technological exchange — Jia Guide”
