Professor Javad Rahighi visited Elettra

Javad Rahighi, Director of the Iranian Light Source Facility (ILSF) and Professor of Experimental Physics at the School of Particles and Accelerators, Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM) in Tehran, visited Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste on the 9th and 10th of November 2015.

The aim of Professor Rahighi’s visit was to present the ILSF project that involves the construction of a third generation synchrotron light source nearby Teheran, and to establish a training program for Iranian personnel as well as develop the Iranian user community  in cooperation with Elettra.

Prof. Rahighi is currently Director of ILSF and Chair of Training Advisory Committee di Sesame (Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East), the synchrotron built in Jordan under the scientific cooperation of various Countries (including Iran) and supported  by the collaboration of Italy.

Guided by the head of each experimental station, our guest visited some of the beamlines dedicated to diverse technologies and applications, as ESCAMicroscopy, Nanospectroscopy, TwinMic, XPRESS-XRD2, EXAFS and XRF. He could not miss a visit to the free electron laser FERMI and the presentation of Kyma, a spin-off of Elettra and nowadays company world leader in the production of insertion devices.

Ended with mutual satisfaction the visit proceeded with the discussion of a Memorandum of Understanding for the training of highly specialized Iranian personnel at Elettra’s, the development of the Iranian synchrotron light user community and the possible construction of an Iranian beamline at Elettra’s.
