50 000 people at Trieste Next 2017(Trieste, 21-23 September 2017) In a boom edition hitting the record of 50 000 people at the three-day event, Trieste Next gave proof of a joint approach at all levels - from the institutional to the scientific one - and saw an extraordinary participation of the public, especially the youth.
Tales, stories and games/experiments with the light to find out a new way to look at the future and its challenges together with researchers by the Elettra stand. This edition saw once again the presence of the researcher Betta, with her new story "X-Ray and Photoemission", and The Crazy Scientists, who reproduced and proposed a beamline to explain how experiments are performed with the synchrotron light. As usual, great success was achieved by molecular models to study and play with their structure and - for the little ones - the characters of Mr. Electron and X-Ray, to be played and coloured. People of all ages were involved in the many stand activities attracted by the catching stand fittings and intrigued by the much-coveted treasure hunt organised by Area Science Park. ELETTRA FOR SCHOOLS The mornings of Thursday, 21 and Friday, 22 September began with primary and comprehensive school students. They took part in a real mission to recover - among contaminated potions - the “special” one designed to fight against sea pollution: by examining the various samples under the synchrotron light and comparing light spectra and diagrams with the “simplified” periodic table specially designed for the activity, the students had to identify the correct formula.
