X-Ray Microscopy and Nanosciences
J. Murray Gibson
( Argonne National Laboratory )
Abstract
Third-generation x-ray sources such as the Advanced Photon Source (APS)
at Argonne National Laboratory have an important role to play in nanosciences
research. In particular, x-ray microscopy is an emerging and exciting capability.
In this talk the opportunities will be discussed, and contrasted with complementary
techniques such as transmission electron microscopy. The presenter is the
Director of APS, which is closely connected with a new Center for Nanoscale
Materials that is being established at Argonne, and which will have a state-of-the-art
x-ray nanoprobe as its centerpiece.
