Bulk and supported oxides as catalysts for gas-phase reactions: characterization and reactivity of surface species.

Fabrizio Cavani
Dipartimento di Chimica Industriale e dei Materiali, Università di Bologna

Abstract
The lecture will deal with some innovative aspects in the field of heterogeneous gas-phase reactions, and in specific of selective oxidation. Topics discussed will be: a)Bulk, nano and tubular oxides: the role of morphology on catalytic reactivity. b)Complexity in heterogeneous catalysis: phase-cooperation and element-cooperation in multifunctional catalytic systems. c)Bulk vs surface characteristics in metal oxides for catalytic applications: structural defects, active layers and surface adsorbed species d)Dynamics at the catalyst surface: tools for the identification of the active species.
