Combined techniques in the structural investigation of ions in solution: the symbiosis XAS-Molecular Dynamics

Abstract
This presentation will focus on recent advances in the investigation of ionic solutions by means of the X-ray absorption fine structure technique. New theoretical advances in the calculation of X-ray absorption cross sections have considerably improved the reliability of theoretical standards allowing the use of both the XANES and EXAFS spectra to unveil the structural and dynamical properties of electrolytic solutions. Relevant cases of ion-solvent coordination determined by combining computational methods, EXAFS and XANES techniques will be illustrated.
